Realizing High Performance TEM Cameras for the 21st Century

Gatan's next generation "OneView" camera is the first camera to combine uncompromised high quality still imaging and high-speed video. The unparalleled 25 fps full resolution frame rate combined with inline data processing enables real-time drift correction, dynamic range extension, and a number of powerful pre-optimized recording modes. The optional In-Situ upgrade enables the study of dynamic processes with in-situ electron microscopy. For dedicated in situ experiments with frame rates up to 1600 fps, the new K2-IS direct detection camera allows the observation of dynamic experiments as heating tests, catalysis, mechanical deformation, STEM diffraction, electrical testing, and chemical reactions. For both cameras the new streaming video technology uses post-event trigger video capture so microscopists never miss the start of an in-situ reaction again.

Paul Thomas, Gatan UK:

GMS 3: Next generation software for next generation electron microscopists

Recent developments in microscope, camera and computer technology have enabled the routine acquisition of multi-signal data at high speeds with huge data throughput. Such information-rich composite datasets require sophisticated software, not just to enable the optimal extraction of analytical results but to simplify the sometimes daunting task at hand for the user and also to maximize efficiency during their microscope session. GMS 3, the latest iteration in Gatan's popular electron microscopy software suite, has been developed with these challenges in mind. Accordingly DigitalMicrograph has been re-visioned to provide numerous powerful and innovative new features. These include a new user interface for a much simplified user experience, an application centric approach for streamlining workflow, versatile multisignal data-containers and powerful new analytical processing tools. These features help streamline and optimize the user experience, guiding the user through complex experiments whilst taking care of many of the mundane tasks such as data-processing and management. The streamlined workflow reduces time to results, enabling more time to be spent on the electron microscopy at hand. This has been achieved with no compromise to the underlying power and flexibility of DigitalMicrograph. An overview of these exciting developments will be presented, with an emphasis on application to analytical electron microscopy.
